A New Post Office for Court Street site.
The City of Atoka has officially approved the construction of a new post office facility, which will be built at 400 E. Court Street. The approval was granted after a long-term lease agreement was reached with property owner Clyde Sheffield, and a separate agreement was made with Herman Edge, the owner of the old laundry building on the site.
The new facility is planned to be a significant upgrade, featuring a 6,500-squarefoot building and a 30,668-squarefoot paved lot for customer and postal vehicle parking. The overall project cost is estimated to be $786,500, which includes $500,000 for construction and equipment, $150,000 for property acquisition, $50,000 for the demolition of existing buildings, and additional funds for engineering costs and contingencies. The project's financing is being handled through a revenue bond, as overseen by the Atoka City Industrial Authority. According to city officials, the bond will be repaid with revenue from the Industrial Authority and the city's general fund. The lease for the facility will be for a period of 20 years, with the Postal Service holding an option to purchase the property after the first five years.
