Wildlife Advocate Dies in Tragic Accident at Hugo Preserve

Ryan Easley, a caretaker who co-owned and operated the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve with his family, died in an accident involving a tiger on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The preserve, located in Hugo, confirmed the death of Ryan Easley in a statement posted on social media. According to the post, Easley lost his life 'in an accident involving a tiger under his care.'

The statement paid tribute to Easley, describing him as a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation. 'His love for animals, especially Big Cats, was evident in every aspect of his life,' the preserve's statement said. 'He dedicated his life to the protection and care of these magnificent animals... His courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to wildlife will never be forgotten.'
