Broken Tag Light Leads to Cocaine, Meth, and Other Drugs

A late-night traffic stop for an inoperable tag light and mirror obstruction, in Atoka, led to the arrest of a man and a woman on multiple drug-related charges.

On Saturday, September 13th, Atoka Police Officer Cheyenne Gilbert observed a silver Dodge Dart on Highway 69/75 with an inoperable tag light and items hanging from the rearview mirror obstructing the driver's view. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which pulled into the Casey’s parking lot.

While speaking with the driver, Jakob Garland, officer Gilbert noticed an alcohol mixer behind the passenger seat, indicating the likelihood of alcohol in the vehicle. Garland was asked to exit the vehicle. Assisting with the stop was Officer Shomo, who noticed a marijuana container in the driver’s side door pocket when it was opened.
