Speeding Stop Leads to DUI Arrest, Open Container Charges

A traffic stop for excessive speeding, north of Stringtown, resulted in the arrest of a Texas man after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol and found open containers in the vehicle.

On Saturday, September 27th, Trooper Sonny Scott observed a black Dodge Ram pickup, bearing a Texas license plate, traveling southbound on US-69 at 85 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone near the Mack Alford Correctional Center.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, identified as David Espino-Magadan, immediately showed signs of impairment, including thick, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. Espino-Magadan initially denied consuming any alcohol but later admitted, in Spanish, to the trooper that he had consumed 'una Chelada' (an alcoholic beverage) and had been drinking the night before.
