A routine traffic stop for an inoperable taillight early Monday morning quickly escalated to a drug arrest after an Atoka Police Officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
On October 6th, at approximately 1:40 AM, Officer Christian Shomo stopped a Kia sedan near Redbud after observing a non-working taillight. The vehicle came to a stop in the Taco Bell parking lot.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Shomo detected a strong and intensifying odor of marijuana. The driver, identified as Emily Townsend, denied that any marijuana was present and stated she did not possess a medical marijuana card.
