Traffic Stop for Speeding Leads to DUI and Drug Charges

A late-night traffic stop for speeding led to the arrest of a driver on December 5, 2025, after an Atoka Police Officer suspected impairment due to an intoxicating substance.

At approximately 1:00 AM, Atoka Police Officer Cort Humphrey observed a blue Honda Civic traveling northbound on US-Highway 69/75 near Liberty Road. Radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 72 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Officer Humphrey initiated a traffic stop near the Atoka Museum.

The driver, identified as Landon Hawkins, appeared 'very hyper-active.' A subsequent search revealed two small containers of marijuana in the glove compartment and a marijuana vape that Hawkins attempted to conceal in his pocket. Hawkins admitted he did not possess a medical marijuana license.
