The county schools have been out this week because of weather conditions so there will be several ball games to make up. I will try to get the new schedule for Lane when school resumes. If the roads clear and school resumes by Thursday, there is a 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade game Thursday, January 29…starts at 4:00 p.m. This is a home game against Cottonwood. It is also 8th grade night when the school honors the graduating 8th grade team members.
As I was getting gas one day to go to a ball game to support my grandkids, a person (who I am sure did not participate in sports when he was a kid) asked me why everyone in this area was so interested in sports for their kids. I had to give it a little thought but came up with why I believe sports are important in our children’s lives.
Sports not only are good exercise for kids that spend too much time on their technology but also teaches them to play by the rules and to strive to be the best they can be. It is fun-packed and competitive but also fast-paced, which demands that kids develop the skills needed to make quick decisions.
