On January 30, 2026, the Kiowa Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
Just before 3:30 p.m., a Kiowa Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, regarding speeding, along State Highway 69 in Kiowa.
When officers attempted to make contact with the driver, identified as 35-year-old Brandon Potts, he did not comply with verbal commands and brandished two knives, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
