The Atoka County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Brandon Barrett has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma for the murder of Boyd Fortenberry in Lane.
Barrett was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Because the crime occurred in Indian Country and involved a Native American suspect, the case fell under federal jurisdiction and was presented in federal court.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with significant assistance from the Atoka County Sheriff’s Office.
