The Atoka Police Department has formally recognized Master Patrol Officer Christian Shomo with the Award of Valor, the department’s highest honor for bravery, following a life-threatening encounter during a high-speed pursuit last November.

The presentation, conducted by Assistant Chief Brian Snead and Mayor Brian Cathey, detailed the events of November 19, 2025. What began as a pursuit involving an armed suspect fleeing from the Tushka Police Department quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation as the chase entered Atoka city limits.

According to department records, MPO Shomo assumed the lead in the pursuit near the intersection of 13th Street and Highway 69. Within a quarter- mile of taking point, the suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and opened fire directly at Shomo’s marked patrol unit.
