The legacy of local scouting leader Jim Turner will be permanently honored as his portrait joins the Hall of Fame Wall in the Mabee Dining Hall at Camp Simpson. This recognition celebrates decades of leadership, innovation, and dedicated service to the youth of Atoka and the surrounding region.

Turner’s leadership journey with Troop 92 began in 1999 as Assistant Scoutmaster, a role he held until being named Scoutmaster in 2001. His impact was immediate; during his first year at the helm, he successfully raised funds to purchase an equipment trailer, personally outfitting it with essential gear found through local garage sales to ensure his scouts were well-prepared for the trail.

During his eight-year tenure as Scoutmaster, Turner mentored 13 young men as they achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He was known for creating innovative fundraising opportunities that allowed scouts to 'earn' their way to summer camps and unique outings, including trips to the Texas Motor Speedway and the Harlem Globetrotters.
