The historic Atoka Confederate Memorial Cemetery was the site of a tribute on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) gathered to honor ten young men who died far from their native Arkansas.

Members of the Varina Jefferson Davis Chapter 252 of Fort Smith, Arkansas, traveled to Atoka to host an Iron Cross dedication ceremony for the soldiers of Dawson's 19th Regiment Arkansas Infantry.

Despite high temperatures, a crowd of local residents, and family descendants gathered for the event. The ceremony featured a single ceremonial shot fired from authentic period weapons, alongside the firing of a miniature historic cannon.
