Traffic Stop Yields Rifle, Marijuana, and Arrest

A traffic stop for an excessively loud exhaust on East Court Street resulted in felony weapons charges and drug counts for a Lane driver late last month.

Atoka Police Master Patrol Officer Peydon Griffith reported observing a white Ford F-150 traveling near McClendon Avenue around 6 p.m. on July 28 with an intentionally modified, loud exhaust system. Officer Griffith recognized the driver as Ricky Willis of Lane from prior contacts and knew Willis was driving with a suspended license.

The officer initiated a traffic stop near Scratch Hill, where Willis provided a commercial driver's license but admitted he lacked proof of insurance. A quick check through Atoka Dispatch confirmed the suspension, revealed unconfirmed insurance, and flagged an outstanding Atoka County warrant for an unpaid court fine.
