Quick Action Locates Lost Hikers at McGee Creek Area

A multi-agency search effort brought two lost hikers to safety on August 23 after they became disoriented along the National Scenic Area on the north end of Centerpoint Road.

The hikers managed to contact 911 via cell phone, allowing dispatchers to ping their mobile location. Following instructions from emergency personnel, the pair remained stationary, enabling rescue crews to navigate directly to their position without delay.

The successful response relied on extensive coordination across state, county, and local emergency agencies. First responders at the scene included the McGee Creek Park Ranger, Oklahoma State Game Rangers, the Atoka County Sheriff's Office, City of Atoka Emergency Management, and Atoka County Emergency Management.
