Lane/Crystal News

The Burn Ban is still in effect at Mc-Gee Creek State Park. No campfires or charcoal grills are allowed until further notice. Help protect our county and our local Volunteer Firemen by obeying the burn bans.

The Atoka County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam being reported in our area involving callers claiming to be from the local Sheriff’s Office. They tell victims that they have an active warrant for their arrest. Then they will instruct you to leave your current location and claim that they are under a “gag order” and cannot discuss the matter with anyone. Next, they request payment, and will direct you to a local retailer, such as Walmart or Dollar General, to purchase prepaid/debit cards. They may also request personal banking information, debit card information, or access to funds in the victim’s bank account, claiming that payment will result in the warrant being dismissed. Sheriff Kody Simpson says THIS IS A SCAM.

The Atoka County Sheriff’s Office will never contact you by telephone to demand payment, prepaid cards, debit card information, or bank account information in order to resolve or dismiss an arrest warrant. If you receive a call of this nature: * Do not provide personal or financial information. * Do not purchase or send prepaid/debit cards. * Do not transfer money to the caller. * Do not allow the caller to pressure or intimidate you into taking immediate action.
