State Highway 43 remains closed east of Sardis Cemetery Road following a series of wildland fires on Sept. 13 that collapsed a roadway culvert and sent one firefighter to the hospital.
The Daisy Fire Department was dispatched around 4:38 p.m. Sunday to assist the Clayton Fire Department with multiple grass fires along Highway 43 and east of 4026 Road in Pushmataha County.
According to a press release issued by Daisy Fire Chief Jason Day, Daisy personnel joined Clayton firefighters in establishing containment lines and initiating suppression efforts. Crews were also tasked with shutting down affected portions of Highway 43 due to low visibility from heavy smoke and active operations along the roadway.
