Lane/Crystal News

Some people at Lane were wondering what the Bill Coben Community Building can be used for. The building is used for benefits, weddings, funerals, and family lunches after a funeral. Also, for family reunions, parties, school functions, and indoor yard sales…really good when the temp is 105.

There is no fee for funerals, family lunches after a funeral, or for benefits. We have had some requests that the Community Building Board did not think were appropriate so if you want to use the building for something unusual, just ask and the Board will take your request into consideration. Fees are: 3 hours or less $15 per hour- So if you are having a 1-hour meeting and want to use it for 2 hours (allowing for preparation and cleanup) it would be $30. If you want it for the entire day, it is $100 and for either the short time or all day there is a $50 deposit. You will receive your $50 deposit back when you return the key and there is no damage at the building. I assume the Boheler/Crystal Community Center is similar for uses.

What’s on the latest gripe list at Lane and Crystal?... the slow mail service…that would be slower than usual. (You know the going joke is that our mail is delivered by mule train). I asked Don, a US Postal Service friend, about the problem. He says that the Postal Service is making operational changes under the Delivering for America plan and making regional redesigns. They are shifting from air to ground transportation and consolidating local processing into larger regional centers, which impacts rural areas. Then in our area there were some problems with equipment at one of the centers which slowed our mail considerably.
