Among traditional American quilting patterns, few carry the rich history and striking geometry of the Log Cabin block. Symbolically, the center square represents the home, a red center traditionally signifies the warm hearth, while yellow denotes a candle glowing in the window.
By piecing light-toned fabric strips along two adjacent sides and dark-toned strips along the opposite sides, the block creates a distinct diagonal split. When arranged in multiples, these squares yield dramatic visual patterns across an entire quilt top.
Block Specifications The finished block measures 12 inches by 12 inches when sewn into a larger project. Standard quarter-inch seam allowances are required throughout assembly.
