The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma honored two tribal members during the 2026 Outstanding Elders Ceremony on Oct. 6 at Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant, recognizing their lifelong dedication to family, community, faith and the preservation of Choctaw culture.

The annual event honors elders whose lives exemplify the values, strength and resilience of the Choctaw people. This year's honorees, Solomon Tonihka, 58 years old, of District 7 and Karen Fay Logan, 70 years old, of District 1, were recognized for their unwavering commitment to serving others and for the lasting impact they have made in their communities.

Named the 2026 Hattak Holitopa (Beloved Man), Tonihka has devoted his life to helping others while preserving Choctaw traditions. A Choctaw language teacher, storyteller and church leader, Tonihka has shared the language and stories of the Chahta people with younger generations while providing comfort, guidance and practical support to families throughout his community.
