Pedaling Away from the Law

A Pontotoc County felony warrant led to a multi-agency manhunt and new local charges on Oct. 8 after a suspect attempted to evade law enforcement on a bicycle in downtown Atoka.

Master Patrol Officer Peydon Griffith of the Atoka Police Department arrested Christopher Parker on an initial count of escape from arrest or detention following a search that drew local, tribal, and state law enforcement officers.

According to police affidavits, Griffith was traveling eastbound on E. Court Street around 10:35 a.m. when he spotted Parker walking through the parking lot of the Town and Country grocery store. Recognizing Parker from prior field contacts, Griffith requested a warrant check through Atoka County Dispatch. Dispatch confirmed Parker held outstanding felony warrants out of Pontotoc County, which requested a hold for extradition.
