Oklahoma expects second federal rural health funding award Oct. 30

Oklahoma expects to learn on Oct. 30 how much additional federal funding it will receive to help improve access to rural medical services as state officials prepare to enter the second year of a five-year program.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health expects the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services to issue the state's second-year notice of award on Oct. 30, according to Erica Rankin-Riley, the department's external affairs manager.

The award is part of the rural health transformation program, a $50 billion initiative established under the One Big Beautiful Bill act to strengthen rural health systems nationwide. Oklahoma received $223.5 million for the program's first year, the fifth-largest award among states, according to a December 2025 announcement by Gov. Kevin Stitt.
