OSSAA District Playoff Update

Several Atoka County teams completed Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association District Tournaments last week. Four area teams will compete in a regional tournament this week.

Slow pitch softball

Atoka ended their season on April 22 in a Class 4A District tournament at Silo. The Lady Wampus Cats suffered a 11-3 loss to Silo and 9-8 loss to Wynnewood.

Class 3A #2 Tushka hosted a regional tournament on Tuesday, April 29. The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with Drumright. Also in the tournament were Wister and Apache. The champion and runner up advance to state. At press-time scores were unavailable. Scores will be available on the Atoka County Times Facebook page on Wednesday, April 30. Tushka claimed a district championship on April 22 after defeating Talihina 11-1 and 8-0.

Class A #1 Caney will host a Class A regional tournament on Thursday, May 1. The tournament is set to begin at noon with Caney playing Geronimo, followed by Fort Cobb-Broxton vs LeFlore at 1:15 p.m. The champion and runner up of the regional tournament advance to the state tournament next week. Caney defeated Bennington 18-0 and 11-1 on April 21 to claim a district championship.

Class 3A Stringtown/Wapanucka ended their season at the district tournament on April 22. Stringtown Wapanucka lost 10-0 to Wright City.

Baseball

Class 3A Atoka will play at Bixby for a Class 3A regional tournament May 1 - May 3.The tournament is set to begin at 11 a.m. with Atoka vs Holland Hall (host school) at 11 a.m. on May 1, followed by Commerce vs Kellyville at 1:30 p.m. The champion of the regional tournament will advance to the area tournament next week. Atoka finished Class 3A District 5 play in seventh place and played Class 3A District 8 Holland Hall that placed second in the district to open the regional tournament.

Class B #11 Caney will travel to Leedey for a Class B regional tournament set for May 1 - May 3. The tournament is set to begin at noon with Leedey vs Granite at 11 a.m. on Thursday May 1, followed by Caney vs Coleman at 1:30 p.m. The champion of the regional tournament will advance to the state tournament next week. Caney defeated Pittsburg 14-0 and Fort Towson 10-0 and 14-0 on April 22 to claim a district championship.
