While on patrol on U.S. 69 near Diamond Attachments on April 16, 2025, an Atoka Police officer observed a white Chevrolet Malibu approaching at a high speed. A radar reading clocked the vehicle at 68 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, prompting a traffic stop that also revealed a malfunctioning brake light.
The driver of the vehicle continued south for about 200 yards before stopping just outside the north Tushka town limits. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Edinson Jose Cesar Marin, who reportedly stated he did not speak English.
Using a translator application, the officer informed Marin of the reason for the stop and requested his driver's license. Marin stated he did not have one, and the passenger also indicated he did not have a license. A check revealed that there was no insurance on the vehicle. Marin provided a Venezuelan identification.
A records check of Marin's information revealed no record of him being licensed to drive in any state. Marin was then ordered out of the vehicle, patted down, and arrested for speeding, operating a vehicle with a defective brake light, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license, and no valid security verification form (proof of insurance).
Atoka Police Officer Drake Smith arrived to assist, and Marin was placed in the rear of a patrol unit. The passenger was allowed to leave the scene after the vehicle was impounded by Donnie's Wrecker Service. Marin was transported to the Atoka County Jail for booking.
Following the booking process, Atoka County Dispatch informed the officer that ICE had placed a hold on Edinson Jose Cesar Marin. Jail staff later located a fake social security card that Marin had allegedly discarded in the area where he was seated after being informed of the ICE hold.
