Four Juveniles Found in Vehicle During DUI and Gun Arrest

A man was arrested Saturday night after reportedly driving under the influence with four juveniles in his vehicle, while also in possession of a firearm, marijuana, and alcohol.

According to a report by Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department and Choctaw Nation Light Horse Police, the incident began around 10:35 p.m. on April 27 when Officer Shomo responded to assist Atoka Police MPO Peydon Griffith with a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as Mack Rogers, reportedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming two alcoholic beverages. Field sobriety tests conducted by Officer Shomo revealed multiple indicators of impairment, including slurred speech, an odor of alcohol, and difficulty maintaining balance. Rogers also refused to submit to a preliminary breath test or the state-administered breathalyzer.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Rogers was driving with four juveniles in the vehicle. A loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and ammunition were found in the car, along with three open containers of Michelob Ultra beer, marijuana, and a smoking pipe with burnt residue.

A check through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) revealed Rogers was under an active protective order filed through the Choctaw Nation District Court in October 2024, which prohibits him from possessing firearms. Rogers initially denied having a weapon, later claiming the gun belonged to his father.

Rogers was taken into custody and transported to the Atoka County Jail. The juveniles were released to their guardians.

He was booked into the Atoka County Jail on multiple charges, including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a firearm while under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting an open container, unlawful carry of a weapon, possession of alcohol while under the age of 21, violation of a protective order, and four counts of child endangerment
