On April 25th, 2025, an Atoka Police Department sergeant arrested a Texas man for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop.
According to a police report, at approximately 7:31 PM, Sergeant James Riley observed a silver Chevrolet Cavalier with a non-functioning taillight making an abrupt stop in the roadway on Highway 69 near B Street.
Upon approaching the driver, identified as David Woodard of Texas, Sergeant Riley detected the odor of marijuana and observed rolling papers in the vehicle. Woodard stated he was in Oklahoma fundraising for a ministry that assists individuals with abuse, addiction, and suicide by selling banana walnut bread.
When questioned about the marijuana odor and rolling papers, Woodard initially denied knowledge. However, after further questioning, he admitted to smoking marijuana and possessing it in his bag in the floorboard, stating he has a medical marijuana card in Texas.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a clear bag and two orange containers with a green leafy substance identified as marijuana, along with two marijuana vapes and a grinder.
Officer Christian Shomo conducted field sobriety tests on Woodard, which indicated impairment. Woodard was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Atoka County Jail after refusing the state's implied consent test.
