An Atoka man was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant Wednesday evening and is now facing additional drug charges after a traffic stop on South Mississippi Avenue.
According to a report by Atoka Police Patrolman Grady Blackwood, the incident occurred at approximately 7:38 PM. Officer Blackwood was traveling northbound on South Mississippi Avenue near East 4th Street when he observed a man walking northbound on the sidewalk, pulling a wagon. The man was identified as Cody Leeper of Atoka.
A subsequent warrant check revealed that Leeper had a $25,000 outstanding warrant through Atoka County for larceny of merchandise from a retailer.
Officer Blackwood made contact with Leeper near South Delaware Avenue and East 1st Street, confirmed his identity, and placed him under arrest on the warrant.
Leeper was pulling a wagon containing a child and his personal belongings. Following the arrest, a search incident to arrest was conducted of Leeper and his property, which included a black backpack he was wearing.
Inside the backpack, Officer Blackwood reported finding a clear glass pipe with a black/brown burnt residue, which the officer, based on training and experience, identified as commonly used to consume methamphetamine. A subsequent field test of the residue allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.
Also located in the backpack were two THC vapes. Leeper reportedly admitted that he did not possess a medical marijuana card.
The child in the wagon was released to the mother, who arrived at the location. Leeper was then transported to the Atoka County Jail without further incident.
Leeper was booked on the outstanding Atoka County warrant. He is also expected to face new charges through the State of Oklahoma for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana (THC vapes without a card).
A referral to the Department of Human Services (DHS) is reportedly being made in reference to the incident involving the child.
