An individual was arrested in Atoka on May 2, 2025, after a foot pursuit with police.
According to a police report by Sgt. Cody Poe, at approximately 4:29 PM, Sgt. Poe was on patrol near the intersection of US 69 and Cedar when he observed a silver Ford Explorer. Sgt. Poe recognized the driver as Erik Hopson.
Sgt. Poe initiated a warrant check and attempted to turn around to follow the vehicle while awaiting confirmation and verifying Hopson's driver's license status.
Sgt. Poe confirmed that the vehicle's Oklahoma license plate was registered but had expired in February 2025. Dispatch confirmed an active warrant for Hopson.
Sgt. Poe located the vehicle parked on the south side of Cazadorez and saw Hopson walking north behind the building. After confirming Hopson's identity, Sgt. Poe informed him of the active warrant and the bond amount.
The report states that Hopson claimed to have resolved the warrant. After a brief discussion, Hopson fled on foot.
Sgt. Poe gave verbal commands for Hopson to stop and then deployed a Taser, which struck Hopson. Despite being tased, Hopson continued to flee. Sgt. Poe was eventually able to apprehend Hopson after a foot chase that extended onto Melba Street.
During the pursuit, Hopson's shorts fell down, and officers later located a pack of 'LD' menthol cigarettes in his shorts, along with three bags containing a crystal-like substance, loose marijuana, and a pre-rolled marijuana cigarette. These items were seized.
EMS was called to the scene to check on Hopson, and he was subsequently medically cleared at the Atoka County Emergency Room before being incarcerated.
Hopson was transported to the Atoka County Jail and booked on charges of attempt to escape detention, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of CDS-meth, driving under suspension, expired tag, and the outstanding Atoka County District warrant.
