Stolen Semi-Truck Recovered in Atoka; Woman Arrested

A stolen semi-truck from Texas was recovered in Atoka on May 1, 2025, and a woman was taken into custody.

At approximately 12:20 PM on May 1, 2025, Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department was notified that the department had received a call from Johnson County, Texas, about a stolen semi and trailer. The semi was described as a red cab.

Officer Shomo checked the vehicle's status in the NCIC database and confirmed that it was listed as stolen from Texas.

Officer Shomo and Sgt. Cody Poe located a semitruck matching the description behind Frost Ranch Wear at 1875 S Mississippi Ave. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers found a female behind the steering wheel.

Officers approached the semi, and Officer Shomo opened the passenger door, instructing the female to exit the vehicle. The female was placed in handcuffs and secured in the back of a marked patrol unit. After obtaining her identification, she was identified as Melissa King. King stated that the semi was her husband’s vehicle when asked about ownership.

Officer Shomo contacted Johnson County Dispatch in Texas and spoke with Deputy Hatley, who was overseeing the theft case. Deputy Hatley informed Officer Shomo that King had gone to a dairy farm, entered the semi, and drove off without permission.

King was transported to the Atoka County Jail without incident.
