Three Atoka Athletes qualified for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Class 3A State Track Meet May 9-10 at Plainview High School.

At state, Atoka brought home three medals including a Malachi Brooks state championship in Long Jump with a 22’8 1/2”, a personal best and school record. Brooks also placed third in the High Jump with a 6’8, a personal best and tied for a school record.

Atoka Track Head Coach Chet Braudrick stated that usually a 6’2 or 6’4 in the high jump wins a state championship in Class 3A but this year seven athletes jumped at least 6’2 and the champion jumped a 6’10.

Two Atoka girls competed in the Pole Vault event at state, Jordan Hill placed 4th and Avery Tipton placed 11th.

“Overall, we had a decent season, overall, we were and will continue to be a young team with many freshmen and sophomores who were competing for the first time at the high school level. We worked hard and learned how to try and do things correctly and work hard. We had some adversity, in the sense of fighting the wind and rain and having to try and do field events in the mud and on a slick surface but were able to work through it and become better athletes. We improved weekly with many athletes setting personal bests almost every time that we competed. I look forward to next season to see how the young athletes will do in the off-season and into next season,” Braudrick said.
