Howard Wounded by Hi-Jacker at His Home Near Stringtown
Paul Howard was wounded at his home near Stringtown on Thursday night after being attacked by a hi-jacker. Despite being shot four times, his injuries were not serious.
Mrs. Howard's bravery was instrumental in the incident. After the hi-jacker broke a vase, Mr. Howard confronted him. During the ensuing struggle, Mrs. Howard intervened, taking the gun from the hi-jacker. The hi-jacker shot Howard several times. Howard was rushed to Atoka Memorial Hospital.
The hi-jacker fled the scene in Howard's car, which was later found abandoned. The Sheriff's officers were notified. Bloodhounds picked up the trail from where the suspect abandoned Howard's car.
Four of the five shots fired by the hi-jacker went through the screen and window, hitting Howard in the chest, side, and head.
To date, no arrests have been made.

Above is Mrs. Paul Howard, whose bravery almost certainly saved her husband's life. Below is Paul, as he looked while a patient in the hospital. Two of the four bullets are still in his body, one in the chest and one in the back. His

bravery probably saved the life of Mrs. Howard and perhaps of the children. Both say they never saw their attacker before. (Times' Photos)
