Trouble at Walmart: Shoplifting and Trespassing

An investigation into alleged shoplifting at the Atoka Walmart on May 16th, 2025, led to the arrest of a woman with a prior trespass warning.

According to a police report by Patrolman Grady Blackwood, who is cross-deputized with the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police, officers responded to the Walmart after two individuals were reportedly caught shoplifting. The incident occurred within the City Limits of Atoka, which is located in the territorial boundaries of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Blackwood made contact with Ashley Nicole Franklin of Atoka, who had allegedly been previously trespassed from all retail locations since October 3rd, 2024. The second female was identified as Lori Michelle Chaffee, also of Atoka.

Walmart Asset Protection advised officers that the females had placed multiple items, including 'slime' and 'Pokemon cards,' into their purses and passed all points of sale without paying for the concealed items. The total value of items allegedly concealed by Franklin was $157.19.

Both Franklin and Chaffee were issued a lifetime ban from all Walmart locations. Franklin was arrested for trespassing after being forbidden and petit larceny. She was transported to the Atoka County Jail, while another officer handled Chaffee's situation.

Franklin, who stated she is Cherokee Indian, is currently being charged through the Atoka County District Court.

Patrolman Blackwood also spoke with Lori Michelle Chaffee. The report states that Chaffee had no prior criminal record or previous trespasses from Walmart. While Chaffee denied placing items in her bag, she admitted to having knowledge of the items. Officers made the decision not to arrest Chaffee. She was issued a citation for Petit Larceny and was also issued a 2-year trespass from all Walmart properties by Asset Protection Agent Latricia Workman. Chaffee acknowledged the trespass and was escorted from the property.

The following day, additional items were discovered on Franklin's person during booking at the Atoka County Jail. Jail staff located three ScentSational brand scented wax cubes, valued at $7.08, on her person. These items were placed into evidence, and Franklin faces an additional charge of concealing stolen property.
