An investigation into a shoplifting incident at the Atoka Walmart on Thursday evening led to the identification of a suspect through surveillance footage and previous police encounters.
The alleged theft involved fraudulent scanning and concealment of merchandise at a self-checkout station.
At approximately 7:00 PM on May 22, Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department received a report from Walmart Asset Protection employee Latricia Workman. Workman had been reviewing surveillance footage from earlier that day, around 12:08 PM, when she observed suspicious activity at the selfcheckout.
Further investigation by Officer Shomo, based on previous encounters, identified the suspect as Cashun Perkins.
The surveillance footage reportedly revealed a pattern of theft during Perkins's self-checkout transaction. It showed her scanning one item while concealing another beneath it, failing to scan the second item before bagging both.
Additionally, she allegedly scanned two shirts but neglected to scan a third, placing all three into a bag without payment for the last shirt. Footage also indicated that when Perkins was unable to locate a barcode for a package of socks, she instead scanned a shirt and placed both items in the bag, omitting the socks from the transaction.
The footage documented further instances of alleged shoplifting, including Perkins successfully scanning body spray and lash glue but failing to scan a tube of mascara, which was discreetly placed into her bag. She later reportedly placed a shirt directly into a bag without attempting to scan it.
After completing her selfcheckout process, she proceeded to the service desk, where she requested a store employee remove a tag from a set of pajamas that she had not paid for. Once the tag was removed, she allegedly exited the store without making payment for the pajamas.
Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, Officer Shomo confirmed the observations. The total value of the allegedly stolen merchandise amounted to $43.39, including items such as a No Boundaries Scoop Neck Tee, a No Boundaries Tie Front Crochet Short Cover-Up, a No Boundaries Long-Sleeve Crochet Top Cover-Up, No Boundaries Women's Low-Cut Socks, and CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara.
