Driver Arrested for DUI After Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle accident on US-69 in Atoka County Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of a driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. The driver reportedly told authorities he had consumed cough syrup before the crash.

At approximately 11:13 AM on June 4, 2025, Atoka Dispatch received a 911 call from a male reporting he was involved in a one-vehicle accident and was in a ditch near North Mitchell Road on the east side of Highway 69/75. Stringtown Police Officers located the vehicle before the arrival of Atoka Master Patrol Officer Peydon Griffith.

Upon arrival, Officer Griffith observed the vehicle in a ditch beside the Union Pacific Railroad. It appeared the vehicle had left the roadway approximately a quarter mile north of its resting point, entered the center grass median, crossed into the northbound lanes traveling southbound, and came to a stop on the east side of the northbound lanes.
