Firearm Leads to Charges for Texas Woman

A routine traffic stop in Atoka early Monday morning for slow speed and lane weaving led to the discovery of an unlicensed driver, an uninsured vehicle, and an unsecured firearm.

At approximately 1:24 AM on June 9, 2025, Sergeant Cody Poe of the Atoka Police Department observed a gray SUV traveling southbound on US 69 at about 35 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The vehicle, in the left lane, was also noted to be weaving within its lane, touching the center fog line, and had an unilluminated rear license plate.

Sgt. Poe initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over onto the highway shoulder. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Abigail Barron of Fort Worth, Texas, she stated she was not in possession of her driver's license or proof of insurance. Barron explained she was looking at her GPS on her phone, which she then placed on the center console, despite the officer's caution about the safety implications of distracted driving.
