A Choctaw man faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants following a reckless driving report and subsequent traffic stop in Atoka early Sunday morning. The incident occurred within the city limits, which fall under the territorial boundaries of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
At approximately 12:30 AM on June 8, 2025, Officer Russell O'Neal, a CLEET-certified Police Officer with the Atoka Police Department and cross-deputized with the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police, received a call from Atoka County Dispatch concerning a reckless driver. The vehicle, described as a red Ford Mustang, was reportedly traveling northbound on Highway 69 from the Tushka city limits.
Officer O'Neal, who was in the Tractor Supply parking lot at the time, soon observed the vehicle pass Highway 69 and Redbud intersection and began to follow. He noted the vehicle drifting within its lane and having defective tag lights.
