Traffic Stop for High Beams Leads to DUI Arrest for Driver

A routine traffic stop initiated for high beams on Highway 69 in the early morning hours of July 5, 2025, resulted in the arrest of a driver for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

At approximately 3:55 AM, Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department observed a Nissan sedan traveling southbound with its high beams activated, affecting oncoming northbound traffic. Officer Shomo initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle, after initially stopping sideways and blocking a lane on Highway 69, eventually pulled into a nearby Travel Plaza parking lot.

Upon contact with the driver, identified as Shaun Doss, Officer Shomo detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When asked, Doss handed over a black container with three buds of a green leafy substance, a clear container with THC wax, and another clear bag also containing THC wax. A check confirmed Doss's Texas driver's license was valid.
