An Atoka Police officer arrested a driver on Monday evening on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, following a traffic stop for a cracked windshield and an obscured license plate.
At approximately 8:13 P.M. on July 21, 2025, Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department was stationary on Highway 69 when he observed a northbound red SUV with a large crack in its front windshield and a license plate obscured by dirt. Officer Shomo initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into the Pilot parking lot.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Kenneth Gibson, Officer Shomo detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Gibson presented a medical marijuana card and admitted to having smoked marijuana approximately two or three hours prior, and stated he had previously smoked inside the vehicle. Officer Shomo noted Gibson's eyelids were droopy and his speech was slow.
