Lane Public School says that they can't wait to welcome back students for the new school year on Thursday, August 7th. The 2025-2026 Calendar is out and you can find it on the school web page at https:// www.lanepublicschools.com/ . Teacher Inservice is scheduled for August 4th, 5th, and 6th, then the First Day of School is August 7th.
If you want to order school supplies online, I noticed that Walmart had an online “Find Your School Supply List.” However, Lane School cannot be found. Perhaps it has to do with our “remote” location. There is usually a list at the Walmart store in Atoka. If you need to call the school to inquire about enrollment the phone number is 580-889-2743.
Speaking of Oklahoma Schools, we have a new ranking in education for Oklahoma. We have been slowly winding our way from a ranking of 15th in U.S. education and have officially made it to our current ranking of 50th in public education among all US states and Washington D.C. When Washington, D.C. is counted in the list of states there are 51 placements. So, this new low places Oklahoma near the bottom, with only New Mexico ranking lower. The ranking is based on scores in math and reading, dropout rates, ACT/SAT scores, and safety issues such as bullying incidence rate and percentage of threatened or injured students.
