An attempt to shoplift at the local Walmart on Friday afternoon escalated into multiple charges for an Atoka woman, including trespassing, drug possession, and possession of stolen checkbooks.
On July 18, 2025, at approximately 5:23 P.M., Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department responded to a report of a theft in progress at Walmart. Atoka County dispatch informed him that a female suspect, later identified as Mikayla Noel Rhodes, was with four juveniles and was reportedly becoming irate and screaming.
Upon arrival, Officer Shomo spoke with Latricia Workman, Walmart's Asset Protection employee. Workman explained that Rhodes had attempted to steal several unscanned items by concealing them beneath other scanned merchandise at a self-checkout station. Rhodes reportedly bagged the scanned items, placed the unscanned items below them in the cart, paid for only the scanned merchandise, and then exited the store.
