Ralph Fred Mobbs

Ralph Fred Mobbs

October 29, 1942 – May 16, 2025

Ray Lee Mobbs, 82, was born October 29, 1942 in Bentley to Ralph Fred Mobbs and Evelyn Susie (Childs) Mobbs along with his twin brother Roy Dee Mobbs. He passed from this life into eternal life on Friday, May 16, 2025, at his home in Atoka surrounded by love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Ray Mobbs; daughter Lisa Diane Mobbs; brothers Fred, Dale, and Roy; nephews James and Josh Mobbs, Terry Hall, and Kamean Nowlin; in-laws Floyd and Vivian Hogan, brother-in-law Charles Hall; and sister-in-law Norma Hogan.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melba, daughter Michelle Hardin and husband Larry, and daughter-in-law Stephanie Mobbs, all of Atoka. He is also survived by grandchildren Jordan and Becca Mobbs of Tulsa, Taylor and Brittany Mobbs of Caddo, Peyton Mobbs of Stillwater, Parker Mobbs and Brooklyn Collins of OKC, Andrew Hardin and Cheyenne McKiddie of Farris, and Nickolas Hardin of Atoka, and great-grandchildren Greer and Monroe Mobbs of Tulsa, as well as one on the way despite his coaxing for many more and outright displeasure that more had not yet come! Also surviving are sister Freda Leuty and husband Hershel of Bentley; brother Randy Mobbs and wife Linda of Warner; sister-in-law June Shelton of TX; sister-in-law Joyce Hall, and sister-in-law Kathryn Kennedy and husband Pat, all of Lane; brother-in-law Harvey Hogan and wife Bonnie, brother-in-law Dale Hogan, and sister-in-law Shirley Mobbs, all of Bentley; sister-in-law Donna Alloway and husband Sam of Tuttle; Gayle Phillips and husband Gary of OKC; sister-in-law Jean Mobbs of Durant; sister-in-law Brenda Armstrong and husband Paul of Caney; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In his early years Ray first attended school in a one room schoolhouse at East Allison Grade School and went on to attend Bentley Grade School after. He graduated from Atoka High School in 1961 and immediately joined the workforce holding various jobs that included some time spent on the Atoka County Bridge Crew before moving to OKC in search of employment opportunities. He joined the National Guard in May 1964 and spent 6 months as a Private at Fort Polk, Louisiana throughout which time he wrote almost daily love letters addressed to his “Dearest Darling, Melba”. He married the love of his life, Melba Jean Hogan, at Iron Stob Church in Lane on November 14, 1964. Their union spanned 6 decades and produced 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and counting. They lived and worked in Oklahoma City after they married where he found work at Star Manufacturing before eventually being hired on at the new General Motors Plant when it opened in 1979 where he stayed for many years until they decided to return home. He moved his family back to Atoka in 1983 where he and Melba successfully owned and operated Atoka Feed & Seed, farmed, and ranched until his passing.

Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family, protected them at every turn possible, corrected them when need be, and made sure they had his love and support in every endeavor. He thoroughly enjoyed watching sports and rarely missed an opportunity to watch his grandchildren compete. He was also quite the shyster; ready with a quick comeback at all times and loved a good laugh at the expense of others! He loved to sit and visit with family and all of the customers who became friends over the years. His absence leaves a hole in our hearts that cannot be filled, but there is hope in salvation, and we find comfort in knowing he is with Mike and Jesus.
